FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is an open-source lossless audio compression format developed by Xiph.Org and released in 2001. Unlike MP3 or AAC, FLAC preserves every bit of the original audio data, allowing perfect reconstruction of the source. Compression typically reduces file size by 40–60% compared to uncompressed WAV or AIFF.
