AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) is an uncompressed audio container developed by Apple Inc. in 1988, based on EA IFF 85. AIFF stores raw PCM audio without compression, preserving full audio fidelity — one minute of stereo CD-quality audio (44.1 kHz, 16-bit) occupies approximately 10 MB. The format supports sample depths from 8 to 32 bits and sampling rates up to 192 kHz, making it a standard choice for professional audio production on macOS.
